Truxton Academy Lottery Drawing for the 2025-2026 School Year
Truxton Academy Charter School holds a lottery for acceptance in accordance with NYS Law. The law states that if more applications than seats are available, we are required to choose students through a random admissions lottery.
The lottery drawing for the 2025-2026 School Year at Truxton Academy Charter School will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 starting at 6pm at Truxton Academy, 6337 Academy Street, Truxton, NY. Applicants do not have to be present to be selected. The lottery is open to the public, and subject to state regulations to ensure they are transparent and equitable. If you have any questions about the lottery, please call 607-842-6252 or email info@truxtonacademy.org.
Truxton Academy’s mission includes reaching out to “at risk” students to provide them with a quality education. Students considered “at risk” according to federal classifications of English Language Learning students, students with disabilities, migrant students, or those from low income families who qualify for free or reduced meals, may receive an extra weight in the lottery. Families are not required to disclose this information, but sharing this information will give a higher likelihood of being selected in the lottery process. Preference is also given to students who have siblings currently attending the school and those who reside in the Homer Central School district, however, all students are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Students who are placed on the waiting list are ranked. Students are chosen for openings by a lottery. If the chosen student’s parents decline the opening, another lottery will be held until the space is filled.
A charter school shall not discriminate against or limit the admission of any student on any unlawful basis, including on the basis of real or perceived ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity/ expression disability, sex, sexual orientation, intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, parental marital status, race, color, creed, national origin, immigration status, religion or ancestry, or association with any individuals with one or more of these characteristics . A school may not require any action by a student or family (such as an admissions test, interview, essay, attendance at an information session, etc.) in order for an applicant to either receive or submit an application for admission to that school. Applications can be submitted year round. The deadline simply ensures your application will be eligible for the lottery date, if a lottery is needed . A lottery is needed if there are more applicants than spots available.
